Schedules

Each set runs on its own schedule. Choose how often - manual, hourly, daily, or weekly - and, where it applies, the time of day (daily and weekly) and the day of the week (weekly). The background service runs the set at those times whether or not the app window is open.

Power and network guards

So a laptop backup never drains your battery or your data plan, each set has guards you can toggle:

• Skip on battery - do not start a scheduled run while on battery power.
• Skip on metered networks - do not upload over a connection your operating system marks as metered.

A run skipped by a guard simply runs at the next opportunity.

Missed-backup alerts

Set a threshold (in hours) and Nyx Backup warns you if a set has not backed up successfully in that long - so a quietly broken schedule does not go unnoticed.

Retention

Retention decides how much version history to keep. Every backup is a point-in-time snapshot, and retention prunes old snapshots on a policy you choose:

• Keep all snapshots for N days - full history for recent changes.
• Keep N weekly snapshots - one per week beyond the daily window.
• Keep N monthly snapshots - one per month for long-term history.

Turn on automatic cleanup to have snapshots outside the policy pruned for you. When a snapshot is pruned, the data chunks no other snapshot still needs are removed from your storage, so your storage bill tracks what you actually keep. Nothing is ever deleted while another snapshot still references it.

If you leave automatic cleanup off, snapshots accumulate and nothing is removed until you set a policy.

Full re-scan interval

Between runs, Nyx Backup tracks changed files as they happen, so scheduled backups are fast. On a longer interval it also does a full re-scan to catch anything a change notification might have missed. The default is weekly; you can adjust it per set.
